He delivers numerous invited lectures both nationally and internationally. He is also recognized as a Top Doctor by Washingtonian Magazine.
What is Embolization?
Embolization is a procedure in which a small catheter or tube is placed into a vessel, such as an artery, and microscopic material is injected to target site in order to reduce blood flow or prostate blood supply so that the organ/tissue shrinks.

Rachel Piechowiak, D.O.
Dr. Rachel Piechowiak is a Board-Certified Vascular Interventional Radiologist at the Vascular Institute of Virginia. She completed her fellowship at New York’s Mount Sinai Medical Center in 2012 and Diagnostic Radiology Residency at Morristown Medical Center in New Jersey, where she was chosen as Chief Resident.
She graduated from New York College of of Osteopathic Medicine in 2006 and also holds a Master’s Degree in Science.
Sandeep Bagla, M.D.
Dr. Sandeep Bagla graduated with Honors from St. Georges University School of Medicine in 2002 before completing residency at Albany Medical Center in NY in Diagnostic Radiology, including being selected as Chief Resident. Dr. Bagla completed sub-specialty training in Vascular & Interventional Radiology at George Washington University. He is the Chair of Clinical Research & Vascular Interventional Radiology, and also an adjunct Associate Professor of Radiology at UNC Chapel Hill.
Alex Kieger, M.D.
Dr. Alexander Kieger completed subspecialty training in Vascular and lnterventional Radiology at Chicago’s Northwestern University/McGaw Medical Center in 2018. This is the same institution where, from 2008-2013, he graduated medical school and trained as a General Surgery intern. Dr. Kieger’s connection to the D.C. Maryland-Virginia area was made through his Diagnostic Radiology residency training at Johns Hopkins, where he served on the residency selection committee and graduated with distinction in innovation.
